Gehana Burl

Some drums make you hit harder. This one makes you play better.

The Gehena Burl is a 10-ply mappa burl shell with 1" reinforcement rings — a thick, stiff, deliberately controlled shell. That construction pushes the fundamental up and tightens the decay, so the drum speaks fast, says exactly one thing, and gets out of the way. There's no wash to fight, no overtone haze to tape down. What you play is what comes out.

Ten classic single-point lugs mount with minimal hardware pressed against the shell, letting the wood breathe the way a thick shell needs to. Brass 3.0mm triple-flange hoops sit on both sides — warmer and more forgiving than die-cast, with the give that makes rimshots sing instead of crack, and rim clicks that carry real wood tone. A Pearl-style throw-off and die-cast butt plate keep the wires under confident, repeatable tension.

The batter is an Aquarian Hi-Frequency — a 7mil single-ply texture-coated head that is about as sensitive as a snare head gets. Paired with a shell this focused, it puts an enormous amount of information under your hands: ghost notes that actually read, buzz rolls that stay even, brushes that don't disappear. Dig in and it still delivers a sharp, dry backbeat. It just doesn't require you to.

Then there's the finish. Mappa burl under transparent gloss triple-thick polyurethane — no wrap, no paint, no hiding. The grain runs deep red into near-black, with the figure moving under the light like a coal that hasn't gone out. Against polished brass hardware and the FSDC badge with the Crossland cross, it reads more like a forged object than a manufactured one.

This is a studio drum, a worship-team drum, a low-volume-room drum. It's the snare for players whose hands do the work.
