Long Description (product page)

Small diameter. Not a small drum.

Most thirteen-inch snares are shallow. You get the pitch and the quickness, and you give up the body — the drum speaks fast and then it's gone.

The MobTown Elite 13 is thirteen inches across and six inches deep, which is a deliberately unusual combination. The narrow diameter puts the fundamental up high where it cuts through a busy stage, and the six inches of air behind it gives that high note a low-mid weight most 13s simply don't have. It cracks like a 13 and lands like a 14.

Underneath the finish it's the same platform as everything else in the MobTown Series: eight plies at 5.4mm, Michigan maple over an African mahogany core, cross-grained and pressed in the USA. Maple for the attack, projection, and ring. Mahogany to fatten the low mids and pull the decay in.

Fourteen lugs, split six and eight

The Elite's asymmetric lug layout, scaled to thirteen inches:

Six single-ended tube lugs on the batter side. Eight on the snare side.

Six rods on the batter head is genuinely few for a snare drum, and that's the point — the less hardware holding a head down, the freer it moves and the wider the range you can tune it across. On a small drum that already wants to go high, it also means you can bring it down further than a 13 usually goes without the head choking.

Eight rods underneath tighten the snare-side head and sharpen the wire response, which is what keeps a fast drum from turning into a papery one.

Hardware

  • Piston-driven throw-off with drop-lever release, chrome, with a matching chrome-plated butt plate.

  • Stick Saver 2.3mm triple-flanged hoops — 6-hole batter, 8-hole snare side. The rolled flange profile is kinder to stick shoulders on rimshots, and the triple-flange keeps that rimshot bright and open.

  • German 13" 25-strand snare wire. German-made wire, and twenty-five strands rather than the usual twenty — the extra strands are what give a small drum its sensitivity at low volume.

Heads

  • Batter: Aquarian Hi-Velocity Dot. Two plies of 7mil coated film with a reverse-woven Power Dot bonded to the underside — bright and articulate, with the durability of a two-ply and none of the deadness.

  • Resonant: Aquarian Hi-Performance snare side. 3mil clear, reinforced where the wires cross.

Who it's for

Players who want a second voice on the left side, or a main snare with more cut than a 14 gives them. A 13×6 sits well in dense arrangements — it finds a slot above the guitars instead of fighting them for the same frequency range.

It's also the Elite for anyone who's found 14-inch drums a little slow under their hands. Smaller head, faster rebound, same tuning latitude.
