Warmth with a spine.

The Blossom is built on a 7-ply mahogany shell with a luan core. Mahogany is the warmest structural tonewood in common use: it drops the fundamental, thickens the low mids, and softens the leading edge of the attack. At 6.5" deep there's real air behind that warmth — weight underneath every note.

Warm doesn't have to mean loose. Chrome die-cast hoops on both sides pull the drum into focus: shorter decay, tighter overtones, and a rimshot with genuine authority. Twenty single-post tube lugs tension each head independently while keeping shell contact minimal, so the mahogany still gets to move. Vintage voice, modern control.

The centerpiece is the strainer. A Trick multi-step throw-off gives you preset snare tension positions you can change on the fly — mid-song, without a knob, without guessing. Tight and articulate for the verse, loose and rattling for the chorus, off entirely for a tom passage. Sixteen strands underneath keep it dry and centered rather than splashy: fewer strands, less spread, more note.

The natural mahogany is left clear under gloss — no wrap, no stain hiding the grain — and across it runs a full wrap-around cherry blossom composition rendered in liquid chrome. Branches climb from the throw-off side and open into blossoms that circle the shell, gathering into a ring around the FSDC badge. Two figures stand in the composition: a samurai with her katana drawn and lowered, and a second figure caught mid-turn, both painted in the same mirrored blue-black metal as the flowers.

The pairing isn't decorative. In Japanese tradition the cherry blossom belongs to the warrior precisely because it doesn't last — the flower is beautiful because it falls. It's a strange and fitting thing to put on a snare drum, an instrument whose entire job is a sound that has to end cleanly to mean anything. Every note on this drum is one blossom.

Tuned low, The Blossom is a thick, dark, room-filling backbeat. Tuned medium, it opens into a warm crack with a fast, clean decay.
